The Time Machine

In this 2002 adaptation directed by Simon Wells, a scientist named Alexander Hartdegen, played by Guy Pearce, becomes obsessed with the concept of time travel after a personal tragedy. Determined to alter the past, he constructs a time machine that propels him 800,000 years into the future, where he discovers a world divided between the peaceful Eloi and the menacing Morlocks.
