Keeping Up Appearances
“Keeping Up Appearances” is a British comedy series crafted by Roy Clarke for the BBC. The show revolves around the life of Hyacinth Bucket, an eccentric woman with aspirations of climbing the social ladder. Her relentless efforts to impress the middle class and present herself as wealthier than she is form the crux of the series.
Patricia Routledge stars as Hyacinth, earning two BAFTA nominations for her role. The series aired on BBC One from 1990 to 1995, producing five seasons and 44 episodes, including four Christmas specials. It achieved significant popularity in the UK and also attracted audiences in the US, Canada, and Australia. Production ended in 1995 when Routledge decided to pursue other opportunities. Since its debut, all five seasons, along with the Christmas specials, have been released on DVD. In 2004, it was ranked 12th in Britain’s Best Sitcoms and continues to be broadcast worldwide.
