Our tale unfolds in the lush San Joaquin Valley, where Elizabeth James, known as Ms. Liz, runs her family’s third-generation dairy farm, defying the powerful local co-ops. Driven by gin and sheer grit, she employs five rebellious ranch hands who have chosen to delay responsibility in favor of extending their revelry. However, their indulgence in women, alcohol, and brawls inevitably leads to chaos. With the farm facing its third consecutive year of financial losses, Ms. Liz finds herself under unwanted scrutiny. Delbert Furgeson, the proprietor of the region’s largest co-op, is eager to purchase her farm, igniting Ms. Liz’s pride and sparking a fierce rivalry between them. The story also unfolds through the perspectives of the ranch hands.
