In Football We Trust
“In Football We Trust” offers a glimpse into a pivotal moment as Pacific Islanders increasingly make their mark in the NFL. This full-length documentary provides a fresh perspective on the American immigrant narrative by immersing audiences in the close-knit Polynesian community of Salt Lake City, Utah. Filmed over four years with exceptional access, it intimately follows the lives of four young Polynesian men who aim to escape gang violence and poverty through American football. Seen as the “saviors” of their families, these athletes expose the cultural tensions they face while transitioning from adolescence to the demanding world of college recruitment and societal pressures.
